The Promises

Friday, October 24, 2003 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Speaker:

Don C., from Cleveland

at

St. Francis DeSales new parish hall, Maria Drive, Colonie

Between Sand Creek Road and Albany Shaker Road.

We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.  We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.  We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.  No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.  That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.  We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.  Self-seeking will slip away.  Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.  Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.  We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.  We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.”            Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 83-84

Don C. will share his experience, strength and hope with us, stressing the message that Dr. Bob and Bill W. set down in The Promises from the Big Book.  Don has 42 years of sobriety.  He is very active in doing service work connected to guiding tours and doing educational presentations at Dr. Bob’s house in Akron.  He will share his recovery story in the first part of the evening and in the second part will share stories about Dr. Bob and the early days of AA in Akron.

"Are these extravagant promises?  We think not. They are being fulfilled among us -- sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.  They will always materialize if we work for them." Alcoholics Anonymous, p 84

By working for them, we have to do a lot more than, “just don’t drink and go to meetings”. We have to take the actions set out in the first 164 pages of the Big Book and apply those spiritual principles to all aspects of our lives.  Only then will we experience the profound spiritual changes that result in The Promises being fulfilled.

As always, these workshops are free of charge and refreshments will be served. Please get the word out about this evening and feel free to bring anyone who might benefit from hearing this speaker and the message about The Promises.
